SEND (Special Education Needs and Disabilities)

At St Michaels C of E School, we believe all children deserve the very best possible start and we aim to ensure our pupils achieve their potential by working together with passion within a trusting, nurturing environment where everyone feels valued, secure and respected.

We are a fully inclusive school who strives to ensure our pupils persevere, thrive and achieve with a vision to create a school where every leader is a leader of SEND and every teacher is a teacher of SEND. A breadth of support will be provided to each child who has SEND requirements through early identification, the implementation of specific strategies and the removal of barriers to learning. We wholly advocate the support and involvement of our parents and carers who are instrumental in ensuring specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely goals are identified and reviewed regularly to support their progress and attainment.

St. Michael’s Inclusion Team

We have a fantastic inclusion team who work with staff and pupils to offer advice, share recommendations and strategies and complete necessary assessments to fully support the wellbeing and development of our pupils. The team meet weekly to discuss how each child can be included and supported to meet their potential in social, emotional and character development in addition to the academic curriculum. The team consists of staff trained in areas such as dyslexia, autism, deaf/hearing loss, speech and language, sensory and physical needs, mental health, nurture, bereavement support, safeguarding, children in care, restorative justice, attendance, parent support, Trauma Informed Schools, PRICE, British Sign Language, The Neurodiversity Profiling Tool.

Our Special Educational Needs & Disabilities Co-ordinator (SENDCo) is Mrs Sarah Swift. She works with  all staff to identify and plan graduated support that meet the needs of all children with special educational needs and disabilities.
